London duo Jack Bibbings and Matthew Hensby make contemporary wooden furniture with a focus on functional craftsmanship and developing designs that build on inherited vernacular traditions. Their focus is on using hand tools to produce practical everyday pieces of furniture suited to contemporary homes. Rather than producing modern furniture using modern processes, or traditional processes to produce traditional designs, they marry traditional craft with contemporary design to make work that feels grounded and relevant.
Much of their work is characterised by the tools they use. Working predominantly with hand tools because of the warmth and individuality they impart and where the judgement and skill required means that things are never predictable and without challenge. This approach contributes significantly to the feel of what they make.
