This curiosity / collectors cabinet is a one-off piece designed to house those most precious items, memories and objects.
The cabinet contains 3 equal size spaces for safely storing larger objects with 6 drawers each containing 2 compartments for those smaller trinkets, objects, watches etc.
Made entirely from species of Maple; crisp arctic white Canadian maple, anthracite quilted maple veneers, and rippled maple veneers, the cabinet is interspersed with little features in purpleheart.
The lustrous, textural grey maple exterior is cut through with deep red painted v-grooves, wrapping the whole form and mirroring off every edge, giving the piece a striking, somewhat otherworldly feel, and challenging one’s regular notions of woodwork aesthetics.
The ‘cabinet of curiosities’ was popularised during the 18th century by the wealthiest of families - it’s purpose to hold and display rare and unique items collected during their extensive overseas tours.
