The Sauron light. Marqueterie de paille - Straw Marquetry has long been used to decorate lamp bases but Kim Jordan wanted to use the straw's natural reflective beauty on the inside of lights.

In the Sauron light, which works as a wall sconce or a ceiling pendant, the light is reflected off the signature "Glitch" pattern, creating a beautiful soft light that ripples as you move around it.

It is low voltage and can easily be wired into an existing lighting circuit powered via a controller/dimmer/switch. For hanging pendant version the light can be fitted with cable or chain - so please enquire for all details and advise.

Customised versions are available to order within practical parameters.

Straw marquetry (marqueterie de paille) is a masterful decorative veneering technique that has been used for centuries to embellish furniture, most notably in the 1920s and 30s. Dyed rye straw is split, dried, flattened and applied in a variety of patterns that show off the natural reflections and variations of the straw. This beautiful technique takes a huge amount of time and immense patience, which is why it was so popular with Napoleonic prisoners of war.

Following his training as an “ébéniste” at the world-renowned Ecole Boulle, Kim continued in some of the most prestigious ateliers in Paris. During this formative period in both the creation and restoration of high-end furniture, he acquired a number of traditional specialist skills including straw marquetry.

From his workshop in London, Kim Jordan now designs and makes contemporary pieces that draw on his knowledge of working with these noble materials and traditional techniques
